Worcester Bosch welcomes latest Government support for advancement of low carbon heating
Published: 03-03-2023
In an exciting development for the low-carbon movement, the recently formed Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESZN) has pledged over £14 million to accelerate and ease the installation of heat pump systems in the UK.
Of this pledge, £5 million will be allocated, allowing grants of up to £500 for trainees to complete their heat pump training.
This will cover most of a level 3 heat pump course, which for current heating installers would take roughly a week to achieve, including many of the ones we run at our Worcester training academy.
As one of the central organisations in the drive for cleaner energy in heating, we are especially pleased to see this level of commitment by the government.
Our CEO Carl Arntzen commented:
“We are delighted to see the announcement by Government of the funding for installers to become qualified to install heat pumps. There is great interest in future technologies and with this funding installers can gain the confidence and skills to offer heat pumps to their customers.”
Lord Martin Callanan, Minister at DESZN, commented;
“This funding will give the rollout of heat pumps a huge boost by making them cheaper and easier to install, and importantly helping more households move away from costly fossil fuels.
“But we need a skilled workforce to deliver this, so we’re training thousands of people to be experts at installing heat pumps and heat networks, driving the country’s push towards net zero.
“We’re also making sure the cost of installing a heat pump is more affordable than ever before through grants of up to £6,000 through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and a zero rate on VAT. So, it’s right we also put funding in place to train installers to meet demand.”
We aim to support this initiative alongside other manufacturers to support the growth of heat pump training in the UK.
We’d like to encourage anyone who is interested in understanding more about heat pumps and developing this increasingly important skill to take a look at our online training hub: www.worcester-bosch.co.uk/professional/training.
